RSF kills civilians based on ethnicity, loots health facilities
(MENAFN) A Sudanese medical organization has accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of carrying out ethnically targeted killings and plundering health facilities in El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, amid escalating violence in the region.
According to a statement released by the Sudan Doctors Network on Monday, the RSF “killed unarmed civilians on ethnic grounds in what amounts to an act of ethnic cleansing,” during a large-scale attack on Sunday evening. The group said dozens of civilians were confirmed dead, citing reports from its field teams.
“It remains difficult to access the affected areas due to the complete security collapse caused by the RSF,” the statement continued.
Witnesses reported heavy clashes in El-Fasher between the RSF and the Sudanese army, as fighting intensified across the city. Civilian committees in the area described the situation as catastrophic, with residents trapped amid gunfire and widespread destruction.
The battle for El-Fasher has been raging for several weeks, following a major RSF offensive that encircled the city from multiple directions. The paramilitary group has been attempting to seize control of the area because of its strategic value as a supply and coordination hub for humanitarian operations across Darfur.
Since May 10, 2024, the RSF has maintained a siege on El-Fasher, cutting off access routes and limiting humanitarian aid deliveries, while the Sudanese army continues efforts to lift the blockade.
The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF began in April 2023, plunging the country into one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. The war has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions, with widespread reports of atrocities, looting, and ethnic violence throughout Darfur.
