RSF Targets Civilians in Sudan’s El-Fasher

(MENAFN) The paramilitary group, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has been accused of killing civilians based on their ethnicity and looting health facilities in El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, western Sudan, according to a local medical organization.

On Monday, the Sudan Doctors Network reported the killings, which occurred the previous evening.

“In a heinous massacre committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) yesterday evening in El Fasher—adding to their widespread crimes across El Fasher and the Darfur region—the RSF killed unarmed civilians on ethnic grounds in what amounts to an act of ethnic cleansing,” the Sudan Doctors Network stated in a message posted on the US social media platform X.

The medical network further indicated that dozens of people had been killed by the RSF on Sunday, citing information from its field teams.

“It remains difficult to access the affected areas due to the complete security collapse caused by the RSF,” the statement continued.

Clashes between the rebel forces and the Sudanese army erupted in El-Fasher on Sunday, according to the civilian-led El-Fasher Resistance Committees.

El-Fasher has been the site of intense fighting between the army and the RSF for several weeks.

This conflict follows the RSF’s multi-front assault on the city, which has resulted in the paramilitary group surrounding it from five directions in an attempt to capture control, given the city’s strategic significance.

The RSF has been besieging El-Fasher since May 10, 2024, as the Sudanese army struggles to break the siege of the city, which serves as the humanitarian operations hub for the five Darfur states.
